We attended the Radiohead concert on Wednesday night, and I am THOROUGHLY convinced that there will be Radiohead concerts in heaven.

or strong for that matter. Last night Ginger and I tried out a local Yoga studio. It’s pretty sweet because they give you a week of free unlimited classes when you are a new student. I used to do yoga a lot, and loved it…the problem is that it’s a bit pricey. Something I’ve learned in the last year though is that you can’t put a price on health, and spending money on things that PREVENT ailments (and stress) is worth it in the long run. No more going to the doctor where they spend about 10 minutes with me, only to recommend a drug that will treat my symptoms and not really the cause, THEN charging around $200 – 300 for that. Sheesh… Nope, it’s preventative/natural care for me. (no offense modern medicine, you are DEFINITELY needed. I’ve had bad experiences lately, that’s all). ANYWAYS, as per my yogi-ness….I found the class to be quite challenging and my muscles weren’t exactly up to par. The room was about 85 degrees, so I felt VERY detoxed by the time it was over….a feeling I love. Honestly, I felt great last night and my head is feeling so much better today (not just because of the yoga I’m sure, but the combination of that and my awesome homeopathic doctor who basically rocks…gracias motheresh!!). So, even though my muscles are killing me today, I’m going back tonight, and yes, I’m taking Rico (gotta love those supportive husbands…he’s the best! And yes, I know there are lots of you out there, but I challenge you to go to yoga with your wife, and NOT EAT MEAT, and clean the bathroom because she has issues with mold allergies, and dealing with mortgage loan paperwork because it overwhelms her, AND letting her park in the garage every night, and  working really hard all week so that she can work at a non profit, and did I mention, NOT EAT MEAT? THEN we’ll see ;-) ). Rico’s really strong and great at just about EVERYTHING he tries (yes, even the first time), so he’ll totally put me to shame. Oh well, it’s always good to keep that pride in check, a little spiritual health if you will…go yoga and go supportive husbands!

The Waiting Place

“The Waiting Place…
…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or a No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.

Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a sting of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.”

Dr Seuss never fails to amaze me on just how much he understands human nature. Then his ability to express it in such simple yet creative ways makes me quite envious appreciative really. I always catch myself waiting for the next “big” thing, job promotion, house, trip, pot to boil, better break, wigs with curls, string of pearls, etc…..oh that allusive moment that I keep trying to focus on, yet hides behind my aspirations for the future. Oh well, this will have to be one of those things in life that I always need to improve upon….God grant me the ability to balance my dreams and my present blessings. May I be appreciative of what is and not JUST WAITING.

McClaren response to Dobson

Just wanted to share the response McClaren gave to Dobson’s recent comments about Obama. It’s a good read so I’ve included the link below as well as an excerpt from the article:

http://blog.beliefnet.com/godspolitics/2008/06/a-call-for-evangelical-rhetori.html

“Conclusion

I was saddened this week by this beloved evangelical leader’s religious and political rhetoric, sad for the example it sets, sad for the opportunity it misses for constructive Christian and civil dialogue, sad for the way it plays into a lot of old, ugly, unholy politics. But even sadder, his rhetoric wasn’t far below what is commonly acceptable in many religious circles: it was more or less typical. And sadder still, many people who see the value of above-board financial practices seem oblivious to poor rhetorical practices, as if truth were less valuable than money.

Unless this leader and his political and religious allies can lift their level of discourse, their shared good ideas will be discredited along with their bad ones. The same goes for all of us. And unless more of us become more scrupulous regarding how arguments are made — even if we agree with the point they’re trying to prove — we will become less able to tell the bad ideas from the good ones.

So, whether my modest proposal for an ECRA is deemed wise or foolish, literal or figurative, ironic or to be taken at face value, I hope it makes its rhetorical point. One wonders what it will profit evangelicals — or religious people of other traditions — to have financial accountability while they squander their rhetorical integrity as honest and trustworthy bearers of truth.” ~Brian McClaren
